TPMS Service
Done Right

Sensor relearn, replacement, and valve service. Autel TS508 covers all makes including BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, and other European vehicles. $30 relearn, $60/sensor.

What is TPMS?

Tire Pressure Monitoring System — mandatory on every passenger vehicle sold in North America since 2008.

Inside each of your wheels is a small battery-powered sensor that continuously measures tire pressure and temperature. The data is transmitted wirelessly to your vehicle's computer. When pressure drops 25% or more below the recommended value, the TPMS light comes on.

It's a safety system that's saved countless flat-tire blowouts and improved fuel economy by ensuring tires stay at proper pressure. But sensors fail (battery dies), get damaged during tire service, or get confused after a wheel swap — and that's when you need TPMS service.

Common Problems We Diagnose & Fix

⚠️
TPMS light comes on after seasonal tire swap Most common. After a winter→summer or summer→winter changeover, the system needs a sensor relearn to register the new positions. We do this for every install — but if another shop missed it, we'll relearn for $30.
⚠️
TPMS light stays on after recent tire service Possible causes: incomplete relearn, sensor damaged during install (broken plastic body or torn rubber valve), or a sensor whose battery happens to die during the work. Free diagnostic with any tire service.
⚠️
Slow leak on one tire — no obvious puncture Often a leaking TPMS valve assembly (the rubber grommet that seals the sensor to the wheel can deteriorate). Valve service kit replacement is $40 and reuses your existing sensor.
⚠️
One sensor missing in dash display Either that sensor failed (battery dead — replacement needed) or the wheel doesn't have a sensor in it (common on stored winter tires that were assembled without one). Diagnostic + quote.
⚠️
Persistent flashing light System fault — the vehicle can't detect one or more sensors. Usually a dying sensor battery, but could be antenna or wiring issue. We use the scan tool to identify exactly which sensor and what's wrong.

Our Services & Pricing

TPMS Relearn — reset sensor positions after rotation, swap, or battery disconnect$30 flat
TPMS Valve Service Kit — replace grommet, core, seal, and cap. Reuses existing sensor.$40 flat
TPMS Sensor Replacement — when the sensor itself has failed (typically battery dead)$60 / sensor
Diagnostic — included free with any tire or TPMS serviceIncluded
Programming + cloning — clone existing sensor IDs to new replacement sensorsIncluded
HST extra. Pricing covers most passenger and light-truck vehicles. Specialty work (vintage TPMS systems, certain commercial trucks, etc.) may be quoted separately.

Our Equipment

We use the Autel MaxiTPMS TS508 WF — the same diagnostic and programming tool used at most franchise dealerships in Canada. It covers:

What this means for you: you don't have to drive to London or Windsor to find a shop with the right TPMS equipment. We have it here in Chatham-Kent.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the TPMS light mean?
A solid light means one or more tires are 25%+ below recommended pressure. A flashing light that goes solid after a minute means the TPMS system itself has a fault — sensor failure, dying battery, or signal issue. Either way, bring it in.
Can I drive with the TPMS light on?
For a few days, yes — but you should address it. If it's a low-pressure warning, find the culprit tire and inflate. If it's a system fault, the system isn't monitoring pressure properly and a real low-pressure event won't warn you.
How long do TPMS sensors last?
7–10 years on average. The battery is non-replaceable, so when it dies, the entire sensor must be replaced. Most vehicles see their first sensor failure between years 7 and 12.
Why does my TPMS light keep coming back on?
Common causes: (1) Service wasn't a full sensor relearn — required after any tire-off-wheel work. (2) A different sensor has now also failed. (3) Real-world low pressure due to a slow leak or seasonal temperature drop. We'll diagnose the actual cause.
Can you disable TPMS?
No. TPMS is a federally mandated safety system. Disabling it can affect your insurance coverage and resale value. We'll always fix the underlying issue rather than disable monitoring.
Do you work on European vehicles like BMW, Mercedes, or Audi?
Yes. Our Autel TS508 covers BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Volvo, Volkswagen, Land Rover, and Jaguar including most recent models. Some require OBD relearn — we can do that.
Why does my new TPMS sensor cost $60 when I can buy one for $20 online?
The $60 includes the sensor, programming (cloning the original sensor's ID so your vehicle recognizes it), installation, balance, and relearn. The cheap online sensors are often universal or refurbished, may not have the right protocol for your vehicle, and need to be programmed — which requires the right tool. We use OE-quality sensors.
